Will Eberhart

In life, we are not all dealt the same cards, but most important is how you play your hand. As the son of teenage parents growing up amid the New York City crack era, life was not certain and college was not on the table; let alone a high school diploma. Society pegged me for a statistic upon entry, however, that would not be enough for me to give up. The way my parents saw it, I had everything to gain.

As a young black male in a dual parent household who attended parochial school in the inner-city; I was an anomaly before I knew what the word meant. My friends did not understand why education was important to my parents, they simply thought I was overachieving. There were no guarantees and examples of corporate success were not prevalent in my neighborhood, although there was one attainable dream I could latch onto, the NBA. Basketball would be my ticket out of the violence-filled streets of NYC and onto the white picket fence lined streets of the American dream. I did not win the NBA lottery, but found favor in education. An Ivy League degree from Columbia University as a sociology major would be the catalyst of my parents’ genius.

Today it is clear those early trials were just the precursor of building a strong support network, thick skin and an unmatched relentless outlook. The path I have taken to become an entrepreneur is unlike any other and has built a perspective very few are able or willing to travel. The short of it is, I see things differently. I have a big picture view with keen attention to detail. I am a survivor and no matter what, the goal is to persist; after all… PERSEVERANCE IS KEY!
